Way, way back in April of this year, I did a little event called the Connemarathon. Because I am both kind and also recognise the chronic laziness of my readers, I am supplying the link to that race report here. There is absolutely no need to thank me.
I managed to mooch around the forty odd miles, and took enough clips to cobble together a small film. And so without further ado, I can now announce the world premiere of yet another unironedman production.
It is available in HD, though it’s probably fair to point out that not all the filmwork necessarily benefits from high definition, and the savage westerly gales we all battled that day did little for the sound quality. But, sure, hey-ho! (I recommend headphones. Or ear muffs…).
In other news, I am just going to post a load of random photos, just to pad out the post, as you do…
(Gary in the green top was from the Dublin City Marathon. I went along to offer some moral support. The last two pics are from work; the welding one I really like!)

And of course, some doggo pictures…

And finally…

P.S. I just spotted a small error in the film (probably one of many, in truth) and so I have just amended the file for another upload. Just in case, you know, you rush off to watch it and it’s not currently available… 😉

Great record of a fantastic achievement 👏👏👏
Now though, I’m curious to know which version I watched and what the error was 🤔🤣

Ah, really just a small typo which bugged me and needed to be fixed. The quality control officer has been mercilessly flogged in the meantime 🙂

Great – I enjoyed that. Thank you for the subtitle to the 2019 clip – I was momentarily confused by the beard continuity (and at least you got to experience the nightclub without paying an entrance fee). Happy birthday for Thursday(?).

Cheers for that; yes, without some explanation, that older clip would have been confusing. It felt somewhat right to include it, not least because of the pure geography of the thing, but also as it failed to make it to a finished product way back then. In truth, the run took so long, I was more likely to have started clean-shaven and ended up looking like Forrest Gump…
The nightclub, on the other hand, is a feature I will be happy to never revisit again in all my days. I was never a fan of them, despite meeting my future wife in one. I usually had to be dragged by friends.
And yes, another turn of the wheel next week. I’m at the ‘I need to google my date of birth to work out how old I am’ age!

I suspect this blog was meant to be no more than a launch pad for the film, but I took the writerly witticisms as personal gifts, and the Oliver and Fasano offerings hit so true to home, they left me a little verklempt.
Unfinished Business is a grand short doc; funny, reflective, nostalgic (how can Connemara look the same after all these years?), and fully engaging. I love the titles, loved that you found the old clip to post, loved it from start to finish line, and loved the outtake-bloopers at the end.
Ah, but best of all was the music by Declan Kenny! My gawd, so evocative, so poignant, so everything right about it. I’ll let others be inspired by your heroic perseverance on the course. I’m blown away by your musical chops.

Well you are too kind as always. Mary Oliver always hits home, and the Dorothy Parker quote is a classic.
Glad you like the music too; it’s a fun part of the process. With the clips, you can edit them all you like, but the raw material is there, and you’re literally stuck with it. At least with the sound track, you are free to muck about a bit.
