Just a quick bloggidy-blog post from your friendly unironedman. It will ten years tomorrow when I started this online adventure, which was the precursor to a slightly longer (and ongoing) one in which we set out to do an ironman somewhere in the world. Somewhere turned out to be Kerry, and who could complain! Well, me. I could moan about the weather that day, but it added to the epicness of the whole gig. And yes, I appreciate some of you may be sceptical about the word ‘epicness’ but it does exist. Look it up!

I followed up this adventure with some long sea swims and ultra runs of my own making, including The Barrow Way with Saoirse, and then the Connemara 100, a long triathlon along the Royal Canal, Declan’s Way, The Wicklow Way and last year, the Slieve Bloom Way. And on many of these outings, Gary (Mr. Royal Canal Runner) joined in for the craic. There is no better man by your side when you’re out for the day on a long, long run. Kudos to you, sir, and to your excellent taste in whiskey (and friends; let’s not forget JC who I finally met this year when we all took part in the Connemarathon; a close cousin of the Connemara 100, which features a half, full and ultra marathon which covers quite a bit of the same course as the 100 miler).

Along the way, I managed to make a few short films about some of these adventures, and you can find four of them on my YouTube channel here. I plan to add to this total, but work is taking up quite a bit of time of late.

With the Connemara Ultra done and dusted by the end of April, I find the calendar is a little threadbare. No matter. I know something will pop up. And if it doesn’t, I will make something up instead. I find these are more fun anyway. You can craft your own day out somewhere, and pick and choose the time, within reason.

And I suspect Gary might be along for the ride too.
