Yet another week. Another Sunday. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose, ou quelque chose comme ça… In a break with tradition, I’ll update the diary first. Monday: (covered briefly in the last post) contained a short swim of about 1.25k, and then a late run in the park. The run was delayed as four different drivers … More Home improvements
Well sometimes you just get bored. And as S said, you will need another bike helmet. I mean, feck it, it’s not like I need an excuse to buy more shit from Lidl. I have my own Lidl store here in the office, and a subsidiary under the bed. But the bike helmets in Lidl … More That puts the tin hat on it
Too long a sacrifice Can make a stone of the heart. O when may it suffice? That is Heaven’s part, our part To murmur name upon name, As a mother names her child When sleep at last has come On limbs that had run wild from ‘Easter 1916’ WB Yeats It may be April Fool’s Day … More A terrible beauty…

IN WHICH ANOTHER WEEK DRAWS TO A CLOSE WITH SOME FINE SPRING WEATHER, HOLLY GETS A MUCH-NEEDED HAIRCUT, AND I REALISE THAT I MAY BE RUN-FIT, BUT I SURE AS SH!T AIN’T BIKE FIT… The wheel spins. The world turns on its rather odd axis of about 23.4 degrees. Or obliquity, if you prefer. … More I’ll huff and I’ll puff…
Well Paddy’s Day has come and gone. I was never much of a fan. I had one or two experiences as a nipper, perched on the shoulders of adults, freezing and soaked, watching some odd floats trundle past in the nation’s capital. In those days, mercifully, the festival did the decent thing and contained itself … More Lá Fhéile Pádraig, and all that
Spring. If it hasn’t fully sprung yet, it’s most definitely springing. The week has come to a close, and the weather has improved noticeably. Yesterday, the left knee was a bit sore, as were the hammies, and there’s nothing worse than someone pontificating about how important it is to rest up when you feel a … More Spring. Coiled and ready…
Running on empty is never a good idea. But first let’s go back and recap on the week so far. Monday was another gym session, followed by a decent swim, as covered in the last post. On Tuesday, I was feeling a little twitchy after a day’s work and headed out into the gloom with … More Walks like a duck…
A rather short post. I arrived a little early at the pool this morning, but as one session runs into the next and both were open to members, I was able to get a head start on what has become the usual mile-long swim, or 66 lengths of our pool. So, despite feeling a little … More Y2K
Oooh! New shooooes! Not mine, but Saoirse’s. The running has been tough on her back, not least when you are carrying around ruptured L4 and L5 discs. That’s a whole other story but certainly a new pair of runners can’t do any harm. And they were half price too, so a good bargain. They’re Asics … More A little retail therapy
