Back in 2016, I wrote this blog:
https://unironedman.com/2016/11/20/50-ways-to-eat-an-elephant/
It was the preamble to my first ultra, and if you can’t be arsed to read the blog, or indeed the race report itself (https://unironedman.com/2017/02/12/the-5050/), well then, that’s fine 😉
Suffice to say, I completed my first ultra-marathon. And I did use that old gag about how you eat an elephant back then too. We’re all for recycling here at unironedman.
Roll on the clock, and we’re about to embark on our second one tomorrow. This one is a slightly different thing. S and I will attempt to cover the length of the Barrow Way in two days. S will bike it, and I will run.
It’s about 120k all told, so we plan on covering 60k per day. We’ll stay in Carlow town overnight, and St. Mullins the following night – the official endpoint of the Barrow Way route.
I’ll post up a full report on how it all panned out when I return. The weather is at least in our favour, as far as we can tell. No rain, light winds, some cloud, and not too warm, or indeed, too cold. A sort of Goldilocks climate for long-distance running, if you will.
Anyway, that’s all I was going to say for now. The table is laden with all the accoutrements of a bike/run journey. We will travel light.
Cheers for now!
Good luck, brother. Nom, nom, nom…
